Darius Dixon is a deputy managing editor for POLITICO States.

He joined POLITICO in 2010 during the lead up to the POLITICO Pro subscription service and its energy policy team, where Dixon covered the Energy Department, nuclear power and waste, and electricity policy. Everything from the development of post-Fukushima nuclear power plant rules and infighting among nuclear regulators to DOE reorganization efforts and nomination battles for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission fell within Dixon’s portfolio.

He turned to editing in 2019 when he joined POLITICO States, working closely with the New York and California bureaus in addition to content across all of the teams on the desk. As a deputy managing editor, he directs content and oversees several reporters and editors in multiple states. Dixon has also edited Playbook newsletters based out of Illinois, Florida and New York.

Prior to joining POLITICO, he was a technology reporter for the E&E News publication ClimateWire, and was briefly a research aide with Wired magazine.

Dixon earned a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering from Carnegie Mellon, as well as master’s degrees in both materials science and geology from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. After his time in Michigan, he attended journalism school at Columbia University and earned yet another master’s degree.

Dixon lives in Silver Spring, Md., with his wife and two young sons. Although he’s a New York City native, he doesn't have the accent.
