Meet POLITICO: Sadler Gensch

POLITICO is growing – since 2020, we’ve grown from 535 employees to nearly 700 employees. In this series, we profile POLITICOs who have joined the organization over the past year and ask them about their roles, their experiences and why they chose POLITICO! This week, we caught up with Sadler Gensch, Manager of Commercial Strategy.

What is your name and title?
I’m Sadler Gensch and I’m a Manager of Commercial Strategy.

What’s something that you’ve incorporated into your WFH routine?
Working remotely has been a bit of an adjustment because my last job was fully in person, but I'm lucky that my team has been so great at making me feel at home. Creating a new routine has helped make this transition seamless. I try to start every day with a workout or a walk, I cook myself some breakfast, and then I settle into my workstation. I've also been setting aside some time for short walks (or playing with my friend's ADORABLE puppy) around lunch!

How did you end up at POLITICO? What drew you to want to work here?
My background isn't the most conventional pathway to POLITICO. I moved to DC almost 5 years ago to work for a commercial construction firm. As I grew there, I transitioned from the technical side of construction to the business strategy side of the industry. I've always been drawn to how passionate the people in this city are about debating the latest policies on Capitol Hill and POLITICO has always been my go-to so I can stay up to date on the latest trends. I leapt at the opportunity to work for POLITICO because I believe this outlet is making a difference through its non-partisan reporting, and the company’s core values deeply align with my own.

Tell us about your role and team. What’s your favorite part about your job so far?
I work on the Consumer Commercial Strategy team which is part of the Consumer Strategy organization (think audience research, sales, interacting with clients, events, etc.). To put it broadly, our team is tasked with launching new product lines, optimizing existing products, and finding ways to grow POLITICO while respecting the integrity and ideas of our fabulous newsroom. I was sold on the POLITICO culture when I met some of the most intelligent, kind, and fun people during the interview process - and a month into this position, I can definitely confirm that the people here are what makes POLITICO special. I LOVE my team. Working in an industry I'm passionate about with this compassionate and brilliant team day-in and day out is my favorite part of the job!

How do you exemplify POLITICO’s values?
I could go on for hours about POLITICO's values, but lately I've felt really connected to our value of relentless contribution and collaboration. After one month at this company, I can see how our team is focused on challenging preconceived notions and habits. The people here have such diverse backgrounds and perspectives, which has encouraged me to dive in immediately and start brainstorming ways we can continue to innovate our processes and organization. I was nervous about my background coming in, but POLITICO finds diverse and passionate people from all over and celebrates those who can bring a fresh perspective. I would never have described myself as "conventional" and love getting to work with a team and people who also relentlessly disrupt.

What keeps you busy outside of work?
Movement is a HUGE part of my life that has kept me sane these past few years. For almost two years I've been teaching a wildly entertaining workout called 305 Fitness, which is a dance fitness workout with a live DJ. I've made some of my best friends at our studio on U Street and would definitely encourage you to check out our DC or NYC studios! I teach and take classes a few days a week and pop into a spin class every now and then. When I'm not there, you can probably find me checking out a new restaurant, traveling, walking the monuments, watching Bravo, or getting takeout with my friends!

Thank you, Sadler!
