POLITICO's Values

POLITICO's Values

At POLITICO, we are driven by our values which ultimately shape our organization’s culture and norms. In 2021, we led an organization-wide effort to update our values to reflect a culture that promotes a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce.

Our values:
We are relentless contributors.
We are passionate about our work and driven by our vision, mission and commitment to reflect a diverse array of perspectives. We pride ourselves on accurate, non-partisan information through our journalism and services. We encourage unconventional thinking in everything we do.

We are collaborators.
We are a community of employees who see strength in the diverse experiences we each bring to the organization. We identify ways to break down silos to produce exceptional work by respecting the unique roles and responsibilities of individuals and teams across the company. Through collaboration, we strive to be effective and transparent in serving a public good as well as in our communications with each other to create an inclusive and equitable workplace.

We are disruptors of the status quo.
We are forward thinking and innovative in our push to provide the ultimate experience to our highly influential and professional audience through our journalism and services. We welcome the need to evolve, and challenge habits and preconceived notions.

We are talent cultivators.
We strive to identify and embrace opportunities to grow professionally while providing meaningful contributions to the organization through our work. Maintaining and recruiting a diverse workforce is critical to our ability to constantly innovate and evolve. We seek out challenges that need to be addressed and cultivate the skills our employees need to achieve their goals.

We are DEI stewards.
We are dedicated to ensuring all our colleagues feel a sense of belonging and respect. We commit to providing a fair and equitable work environment where all employees can be themselves and share their experiences.

How were the values created and why were they updated?
Over the course of two months in early 2018, our POLITICO Culture Champions (a group of 16 individuals from across the organization) worked to develop POLITICO’s values. In 2021, POLITICO’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Working Groups set out to expand our values to include DEI. All employees received a survey to provide input on incorporating DEI into our existing values, the Working Groups analyzed and discussed the feedback, collaborating to develop a recommendation, and our Culture Champions (who assisted in creating our original values) edited and proposed language for our updated values.

Recognizing our values
Each year we highlight POLITICO’s values on Values Day to celebrate the tenants that distinguish POLITICO’s culture. Past Values Days have consisted of POLITICOs learning about the values, committing to exhibiting the values in their daily work, and talking about how important our values are in a remote work environment.
