Ry Rivard

Ry Rivard covers energy, the environment and transportation in New Jersey. He joined POLITICO in 2021 from the Adirondack Explorer in New York, where he was an investigative reporter and wrote about pollution in one of America’s most protected wilderness areas. His reporting, in partnership with the Times Union of Albany, was a finalist for a 2020 Investigative Reporters and Editors award.

Rivard previously spent five years covering energy and western water politics for Voice of San Diego and, before that, spent two years in Washington, D.C. writing about college finances and leadership for Inside Higher Ed. He started his career covering the West Virginia statehouse for the now-defunct Charleston Daily Mail, one of the country’s last afternoon dailies. He is a native West Virginian and a graduate of West Virginia University.
